This Was Once Little Italy

It's nice to be part of something bigger.
Little Italy is not just place. It represents a bridge across countries, cultures and time.

This Was Once Little Italy is a cultural project with the aim to recognise and celebrate the history of the Italian Community in Belfast and N. Ireland, centred on the area that was historically known as ‘Little Italy’, in Belfast’s Dockland’s Sailortown area.

The opening event will be unveil the erection of a scaffolding tower on a derelict site in Great Patrick Street on Thursday evening 4th July 2019 at 6pm.

The follow on project will be to further celebrate Italian Culture in the city by adding a new dimension to Belfast’s Culture Night, with an Italian theme in the same area, with the support and involvement of the Italian Community.

A small street festival in Great Patrick Street, around the ‘Italian Tower’ with street music and dancing, an Italian film/exhibition in the GT Gallery, also in Great Patrick St, Italian wine tasting event in Direct Wine Shipments, and finally a performance/play with music in St Joseph’s Church in Pilot Street in Sailortown.

We'll celebrate Italian Culture and Italian history for the first time in Belfast, and the magnificent contribution Italians have made to the city and people over the years.
